A Transition Support tool from Augusta State University Academic Advisement

Who is an undecided student?
An undecided student at Augusta State University is an undergraduate with less than 40 semester hours earned whose major has not been declared. Every student registered at Augusta State University accepts the official academic regulations including prerequisites (refer to the current ASU Catalog).

Who is my advisor?
If no preferred major is indicated on your application, your records are assigned to Academic Advisement. (Students in the Learning Support program are advised in that department until they successfully complete all required LS courses.)

What majors are offered at ASU?
Q&A: Where's My Major? from Academic Advisement lists the undergraduate degrees and the departments which advise for those majors. If you have an area of specific interest, you should declare the appropriate major and seek advisement in that particular department as they are the best source of information.

How do I declare my major?
To declare your major and have your advising records assigned to the appropriate department, complete a Change of Major form on ELROY's Personal Information menu or in Student Records (Payne Hall, 1st floor).

What support is available for undecided students?
In addition to academic advising, Academic Advisement offers programs to support students in achieving their academic goals. Major Decisions is a guidebook that provides a structured format for making decisions in a timely manner. Ask an Advisor in Academic Advisement for details on this and other programs.

The Counseling Center (Boykin-Wright, first floor) and the Career Center (Boykin-Wright, second floor) also offer support services and programs. Contact these offices with any questions about their programs. (These and other campus resources are incorporated in Major Decisions.)

How and when do I register for classes at ASU?
If you are attending Augusta State University for the first time, you should attend an Orientation program and, if offered, register as part of the program.

Continuing undecided students are advised in Academic Advisemen. Course listings are available near the beginning of priority registration on www.aug.edu. Just after midterm, you should contact Academic Advisement for information on possible early advising anopportunities. After working with an Advisor, follow the published campus schedule for the day and time on which you may register. (For general registration procedures, see Q&A: How Do I Register?)

How do I find out about the content of and prerequisites for particular courses at ASU?
Consult the current ASU catalog and/or the academic department offering those courses. Each student must satisfy prerequisites before registering for courses that require them.

What about ID cards, parking permits, and books?
All students should have an JagCard student ID made when beginning at ASU. After paying your fees, take a photo ID by the Student Activities Office in JSAC. This permanent card must be validated for each term of enrollment. The JagCard student ID is necessary for use of campus facilities and labs, serves as your library card, functions as an on-campus debit card, allows free transportation on Augusta public buses, and provides free admission to most ASU plays, Lyceum programs, films, and home games.

Every student parking on campus must have an ASU parking sticker displayed on his or her car. These parking permits, valid through Summer term, may be purchased in ASU Public Safety (off Arsenal Avenue behind Allgood Hall).

Purchase textbooks after you have registered for your classes. The ASU Bookstore (Washington Hall, 1st floor) often has extended hours on registration and schedule adjustment days. A used book exchange (Washington Hall lobby) is operated at various times during the first several days of classes (See posted hours).
