1. Where do I check-in for Orientation?
Check in begins at 8:30a.m. in front of the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. Once you have checked in with the Orientation staff, you and your family are invited to attend a light continental breakfast. At checking you will receive your name tag, schedule, registration form, academic summary and an ASU tote bag containing information about student services, and other pertinent information.

2. Where do I park during Orientation?
Your parking pass allows you to park anywhere you find an available space, except in lots specifically designated for faculty/staff. The most convenient parking spaces may be found behind University Hall or the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre.

3. What do I need to bring to Orientation?
Students will need to bring the following:

  • Government Issued ID
  • Official Admission Letter
  • Paperwork from Financial Aid (if you are receiving any).
  • COMPASS Placement Exam Scores
  • Transfer Evaluation and all Unofficial Transcripts
  • Work Schedule (to assist in registering for classes).
  • Form of payment, if Financial Aid is not covering.
  • Money to pay for your courses and books that your financial aid does not cover
  • Notebook and pen/pencil
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes
  • Umbrella (Just in case).
  • Spending/Emergency Money (First Citizens Bank and Higher One ATM Machines are located in the foyer of the Jaguar Student Activities Center).

Family and guests will need to bring the following item:

  • $10.00 per person for Registration Fee
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes (a jacket or sweater is also reconmended for January Orientation).
  • Umbrella (just incase).
  • Spending/Emergency Money (First Citizens Bank and Higher One ATM Machines are located in the foyer of the Jaguar Student Activites Center).

4. Do I have to pay to participate in Orientation?
Student is paid through their application fee. All family and/or guests must pay a $10.00 registration fee.

5. Are parents required to attend Orientation?
Parents are not required to attend however, some choose to do so.

6. Will I be able to register for classes at Orientation?
Students who have been admitted to the university and have completed their COMPASS Placement Exam* are eligible to register for courses during Orientation. Students must first visit an academic advisor in their academic department (there will be designated time for advising during Orientation) for selection of all semester classes. Orientation Leaders will be available in each lab to help with registration. When registration is complete, students may print a fee statement, listing all pertinent tuition costs and fees.

*If you need to take your COMPASS Placement Exam, please call ASU’s Testing and Disability Services Office at 706-737-1469 before registering for Orientation.

7. Do I have to pay my tuition and fees at Orientation?
Yes. A short payment seminar will be presented during Orientation.

8. When should I register for Orientation?
You should register for Orientation as soon as possible; please call the Office of Student Activities at 706-737-1610. Also, refer to the register for orientation tab for more details.

9. Can I change or cancel my Orientation once I register?
Yes, you can call the week before Orientation to change your date.

10. Does my family member and/or guest check in at the same time and place?
Yes, family members and/or guests both check in at the same location.

11. Is Orientation mandatory?
Yes. Orientation is mandatory for new students. If you do not attend orientation, you will not be able get an advising appointment or register for classes prior to late registration. This limits your selection of classes and available schedules. There is also a fee for late registration.

12. Can I leave the Orientation before its conclusion?
When you are attending orientation, you should prepare to stay for the full Orientation program. Travel arrangements should be made accordingly. If your schedule does not allow you to remain for the entire Orientation program, you should consider an alternate Orientation date.
