New York City Tour Itinerary
Dec. 10-16, 2010

Friday, 10
Group convenes at US Air check in Charlotte-Douglas Airport for check in, 8 AM.  Fly at 9:35 non-stop to Kennedy International Airport.  Private bus will transport the group directly to the Hotel.  After depositing luggage at the hotel join the leaders in the lobby to walk over to subway for transport to American Museum of Natural History followed by a tour of monuments of Central Park:  seeing Delacorte Theatre, Belvedere Castle, Cleopatra’s Needle, Bethesda Fountain, the lake, and more in this Olmstead designed park.  Then walk down 5th Avenue to see The Frick Mansion and return to the East side near to our hotel to scout for restaurants.

Nights
Nights are free for you to schedule for dining, shopping,  (pre holiday shopping: most big stores are open to 10 PM) and concerts and Broadway shows which can be booked on line before you go or try and get same day tickets in Times Square at the TKTS booth at a big discount.

Saturday, 11
Upper West Side (Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center; to St. John the Divine Cathedral and Beaux Art architecture at Columbia University); Cloisters Museum of Medieval Art (9:30am-5:15pm)

Sunday, 12 (Brooklyn)
Park Slope Area
Grand Army Plaza
Brooklyn Public Library
Prospect Park
Brooklyn Museum (11am-6pm)
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens (10am-4:30pm)

Brooklyn Heights Area
                Brooklyn Heights Promenade
                First Unitarian Church (11am-12:30pm)
                 Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan
Walk trough financial district, Wall Street, NY Stock Exchange, Treasury Building and visit ground zero site of World Trade Center.  Those who wish to stay down town for dinner in Chinatown or Little Italy can do so with one of the instructors.

 

Monday, 13
Times Square
42nd Street architectural walk
Fifth Avenue and midtown (Rockefeller Center)
Museum of Modern Art (10:30am-5:30pm)

 

Tuesday, 14
Metropolitan Museum of Art (9:30am-5:30pm)

Wednesday, 15
Free day in NY.  Time to take advantage of other free activities on the NY Card such as: The King Tut Exhibition in its last weeks before it returns to Egypt.  Check out the New Museum (contemporary art). Visit the Empire State Building Observation Deck.  Take a Circle Line boat tour around the Island of Manhattan, visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island now a National Museum to Immigration.  Other Art Museums not on the NY Card:  Whitney Museum of American Art, Frick Museum, JP Morgan Library, consider visiting the United Nations for a guided tour.

Thursday, 16
8:30 AM all luggage cleared of rooms and into announced storage area.
9 AM Meet leaders for subway to the Guggenheim Museum of Art (possibly time to also visit the Jewish Museum, 4 blocks north on 5th Avenue (open at 11AM). 
1:30 Meet in front of Guggenheim to return to hotel to retrieve luggage.
2:30 meet bus in front of hotel for transit to Kennedy Airport
3:30 check in
6:00 boarding
6:29 fly
8:32 PM land in Charlotte
