Welcome!

Augusta State University (ASU) is very excited to host this year’s Southeastern Model African Union (SEMAU). As students of Africa ourselves we, as co-directors of this year’s SEMAU, are proud of the University System of Georgia African Council’s on-going commitment to providing a hands-on learning scenario to engage students in the complexities of contemporary African issues.

Moreover, we are happy to participate in a program like SEMAU that promotes intercollegiate work among our Georgia colleges and universities, to the benefit of both faculty and students. In that spirit of cooperation, we will particularly encourage this year’s participants to think of ways they can commit their knowledge and time to volunteer efforts to improving the quality of life in areas of Africa struck hardest by impoverishment and political insecurities. Through study abroad programs, ASU works with programs in Africa like the Amy Biehl Foundation in Cape Town and the Sports for Education and Economic Development (SEED) Foundation in Dakar. We believe that these sorts of cooperative partnerships are not only great learning experiences, preparing people to go forth into the workforce, but more importantly, they better prepare students to share in humanity and to go forth as responsible global citizens.

We at ASU are working hard to insure that this year’s program will be thought provoking and fun. We look forward to celebrating the diversity of African cultures and perspectives. We also look forward to welcoming youto our home, the second largest city in Georgia.

See you in November! Bratton and Hammond
