Debbie Callan graduated from Sacred Heart University, Bridgeport Connecticut in 1977 with a double major and BS in Elementary Education and Psychology. She earned her Masters and Specialist degree in Teaching and Learning from Augusta State University. She is currently a first grade teacher and has taught 31 years at Bel Air Elementary School in Evans, and was Columbia County Teacher of the Year in 1992. She has been a member of the adjunct faculty at ASU since the fall of 2006. Debbie Callan was the Columbia County representative for the State Math GPS redeilvery and had the responsibility of redelivering to all of the K-2 school representatives of the county. She also served on the CRCT content review Panel, state ELA team, state Georgia LEADS at GADOE. She has facilitated numerous staff development courses at both the county and school level and has been the chair of SACS and SIP steering committees. Presently she is on the Editorial Peer review team for the journal, "Teaching Children Mathematics". She is married to Dr. Rick Callan, who is Chair of General Dentistry at MCG Dental School. Her two daughters teach in Columbia County and both earned their Specialist degree from Augusta State University. Her son is a graduate from UGA and is currently working for an ophthalmologist.
