I was born in New Mexico and moved to Georgia in 1978. I attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I received a Master’s degree in reading from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces New Mexico, and an Education Specialist degree in Education Leadership from Augusta College. I have taught in four states, Arizona, New Jersey, New Mexico, and Georgia, in four different grade levels, kindergarten, first, second, and sixth and one foreign country, Thailand. After earning my Education Specialist degree, I worked as an assistant principal, curriculum director, and principal. I completed my Doctor Degree from Georgia Southern University. I retired from the public school system after 33 years and began teaching at Augusta State University in 2006.
