Dr. Edwards received her Bachelor's degree in Special Education from East Carolina University, a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Coppin State College, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She taught for 12 years in Edgecombe County, North Carolina in grades K-8, teaching both special education and middle grades mathematics. She also worked as a middle school mathematics coach in Durham, North Carolina, helping beginning middle school math teachers. Before coming to Georgia Regents University Dr. Edwards taught at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her research centers around middle grades education with a primary interest in active learning in middle school classrooms.
