New Educators Wanting Support
Dear Fellow Educators,
Welcome to the Augusta State University New Educators Wanting Support (NEWS) website.
My name is Carey Anne Cushman and I’m an Assistant Professor for the Department of Teacher Education here at ASU. About four years ago I was in your shoes. Yes, I was a brand new teacher extremely excited about starting my career as an elementary school teacher. My dream had come true. I was going to be a TEACHER!
After my first week of teaching, I quickly learned that teachers are responsible for much more than student learning. New teachers are expected to take on the exact same responsibilities as veteran teachers, which may leave new teachers feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
However, sometimes it is a great relief to recognize that you are not alone, which is why I believe our
NEWS program can help you. This program has been designed to help our graduates become successful teachers.
NEWS is more than just a program, it is a way for our new teachers to interact, learn, communicate, and grow with each other.
I hope you will find this website helpful. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for improving our New Educators Wanting Support (NEWS) Program or if you have any suggestions for improving this website. I want this program and website to be helpful, so your thoughts and opinions will play a BIG role in the success of this program.
Sincerely,
Carey Anne Cushman, Ed. S.
