Our Mission

Georgia Regents University believes academically qualified individuals with disabilities should have equal opportunity and access to a quality education. We are actively involved in fostering an environment that encourages full participation by students with disabilities in every segment of the University.

The Office of Disability Services was established to help ensure an accessible and positive college experience for students with disabilities. Our Office provides a variety of services and accommodations to meet the needs of disability related concerns in accordance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and Board of Regents' policies. Accommodations for students with disabilities are made on an Individual basis.

Testing Services plays an integral part in the facilitation of Georgia Regents University's commitment to the advancement of knowledge. Testing Services was established to provide a reliable, convenient, and accessible location for students, faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding communities with a variety of testing services:

  • Administration of tests for career certifications.
  • Administration of assessments necessary for admission into undergraduate and graduate education programs (e.g., TEAS, MAT).
  • Test proctoring for students enrolled in online or distance education courses.
  • CLEP and DSST exams for college credit.

Assessment

Testing and Disability Services diligently works to assess their staff, facilities, and practices to maintain an optimum environment for our students and customers. The following presents some data about the TDS office. We exclude some important data to maintain confidentiality of our students, therefore this list is not exhaustive of our efforts.

Our Staff

Our staff is committed to serving your testing and accomodation needs. We come from a variety of backgrounds to assist you with professionalism, enthusiasm and confidentiality.

Felicia Johnson, Testing Assistant, has been working with TDS since July 2005. She began working on campus in 2001 as a student. She was born and raised in Augusta, GA.

Angie Baker, Director, has been a part of the campus for more than 17 years. After a brief hiatus of working in the Department of Psychology, she returned to campus in January 2000. Born and raised in Martinez, GA, she received both her BS and MS in Psychology from ASU. She is currently working on her Ed.S. in Educational Leadership.

David Sallette, Testing Assistant, has been working with TDS since July 2012. He completed his Piano Performance Bachelor's in 2008 and is currently working towards a Master's in the Art of Teaching.

Testing Services

A number of institutional and national tests are available through Testing and Disability Services. Specific test information is available for each test. To register for any of these tests, come by our office for a Registration Packet. Payments for test registration must be made prior to 4:00pm.

IMPORTANT: Effective immediately we no longer accept cash as a form of payment. Payments must be made in the form of check, money order, or credit/debit card.

ACT (American College Testing)

American College Testing (ACT) is given several times a year and measures aptitude of various subjects from a high school curriculum. This test is used for college admissions. Application forms may be picked up in our office and must be completed and sent to ACT by the deadline. Calculators may be used on the Math portion of the test. To register online, please go to www.act.org.

- $39.50 per non-writing test, $50.50 per plus writing test.

- Testing fees are not collected in the office of TDS. Test-takers must pay their fee directly to ACT.

CLEP (College Level Examination Program)

CLEP registrations are available in Testing and Disability Services. Students who wish to take CLEP must do the following:

  • Fill out registration form in Testing and Disability Services, or click here to print out a registration form.
  • College students can take a CLEP exam and receive college credit if they pass the exam.
  • CLEP offers 33 exams in five subject areas, covering material taught in courses that you may generally take in your first two years of college. Most CLEP exams are designed to correspond to one-semester courses, although some correspond to full-year or two -year courses.
  • Pay $20.00 registration fee (check, money order, or credit/debit card). Registration payments are accepted by mail, but must be paid before the registration deadline. Please make checks/money order payable to Augusta State University or ASU.

Information you need to know for your test day

  • Please arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to testing. The tests will be given on computer in the Testing and Disability Center, located in Galloway Hall.
  • Only one test can be taken per test day.
  • Two forms of ID are required to take the test. The primary form must be a government-issued photo ID with signature, such as a passport, state-issued driver's license, state-issued ID card, etc. The secondary form of ID must have a photo or signature, such as a Social Security card, student ID, credit card or employee ID.
  • Please remember to bring a credit/debit card to pay your testing fees. No other form of payment is accepted on the test day.

COMPASS

COMPASS is a computer based placement test. Individuals will be notified by the Admissions Office if this test is necessary to complete the admission's process. If you have any questions regarding requirements for taking COMPASS, please contact Admissions at (706) 737-1632.

The Testing Lab is located on the first floor of Galloway Hall. It is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00am through 11:00am, as well as Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 1:00pm until 3:00pm, unless otherwise stated on the calendar. Registration is NOT required for this test and students can arrive anytime between the times that the test is offered. Picture ID is required for testing. Individuals interested in preparing for the COMPASS can come during lab hours to take a practice test. Students are strongly encouraged to take a practice test prior to sitting for the placement exam. Study materials can also be purchased from the ASU Campus Bookstore.

We have a COMPASS placement practice exam installed on the computers in the lab and students are allowed to complete the practice exam free of charge and within the normal COMPASS testing hours.

If you wish to take the COMPASS for ASU at another institution please contact our office for more information at (706) 737-1469.

If you need to take the COMPASS for another institution please contact your school to have them register a Remote COMPASS Exam. There will be a testing fee of $25.00 to transfer scores to another institution.

COMPASS fees are $25.00 and include the following:

  • Students completing the test for another institution at ASU
  • Test takers wishing to take the test for employment purposes
  • Test takers who wish to have their scores transferred to another school
  • Augusta State University students who meet the retest minimum score requirements to retest

CPCE (Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination)

CPCE registrations are available in Testing and Disability Services. Students who wish to take the CPCE must do the following:

DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Test)

DSST registrations are available in Testing and Disability Services. Students who wish to take DSST must do the following:

  • Pay $20.00 registration fee (check, money order, or credit/debit card) for non-military test-takers. Registration payments are accepted by mail, but must be paid before the registration deadline. Please make checks/money orders payable to Augusta State University or ASU.

Exit Exam

Testing and Disability Services administers the Major Field Tests (Exit Exams) for the following majors:

  • Biology
  • Criminal Justice
  • Math
  • Physics
  • Psychology
  • Computer Science
  • English
  • Music
  • Political Science

If your major is not on this list, check with your department to see if an exit exam is required.

In order to take an exit exam, seniors must do the following:

  • Apply for graduation through your major's department the semester before you graduate. This will add you to a list we receive notifying us that you are eligible to take the exam.
  • You will be notified via email when the exam will be offered. It is the student's responsibility to call to reserve a specific date and time.
  • No fees are collected for this exam unless it's a retest and the department of the student's major is responsible for paying the $25.00 testing fee.

Exit exams are computer based. Students must have a picture ID and know their student identification number (927#) on the day of their scheduled exam.

Foreign Language Placement

The Foreign Language Placement Exams are administered through Testing and Disability Services for the Languages, Literature and Communications Department of Augusta State University. The test measures listening and reading comprehension for German, French and Spanish. This test is recommended for students who wish to pursue majors or minors in these languages. Test takers must be current students or applicants to take the placement exam.

The Foreign Language Placement Exam is offered during the same hours of the COMPASS Exam. There is no appointment needed, test takers must have their photo identification with them when they show up for testing. Please check out our calendar for test dates and times.

GACE (Georgia* Assessment for the Certification of Educators)

The GACE replaces the Praxis requirement for all teachers obtaining certification in Georgia and/or is required for admission into some graduate programs for education.

This national test is primarily used for admission to graduate programs. The GMAT is no longer available in paper and pencil format. To register to take the GMAT on computer, you must contact Pearson Professional Center at 1-800-717-GMAT (4628). Online registration is available at www.MBA.com.

GRE (Graduate Record Exam)

Please be aware that we only offer GRE Subject tests.

This national test is primarily used for admission to graduate programs. The GRE General Test is no longer available in paper and pencil format. To register to take the GRE General Test on computer, you must contact Prometric Testing at 803-279-7247 and/or 803-279-7283. To register online for Subject tests, please visit www.gre.org.

Independent Study Testing

The Office of Testing and Disability Services offers proctor services for distance learning and independent study students. Students are required to have proper photo identification when reporting to take their tests. Failure to present an ID will result in the student not being allowed to take their tests. Also, students should report at their scheduled test time. The Office of Testing and Disability Services reserves the right to have students who arrive after their scheduled test time to reschedule for another day. Please see the following information regarding fees for services, policies regarding scheduling exams and proctor information.

Legislative Exam

The Legislative Exams are given as an institutional test. Four different areas of testing are administered:

These tests are given to students who have not satisfied their GA legislative requirements needed for graduation. Examples of students needing to complete this exam are students who satisfied their requirements through CLEP testing as well as students who have satisfied their History and Political Science requirements outside the University System of Georgia.

No preregistration is required, just come on the day of the test to our office in Galloway Hall (across the street from University Hall and behind the ASU Bookstore), approximately 15 minutes prior to the testing time. You are allowed one hour for each test. Check with your advisor or the Registrar's Office if you are unsure about which test you are required to take. Students are allowed to take the test one time only. If the test is failed, the student must take the class.

If you have a disability, you must contact this office at least one week in advance of testing.

MAT (Miller Analogies Test)

The Miller Annalogies Test, or MAT, is a standardized test primarily used for admission to graduate school programs. Additional information regarding the MAT can be viewed by visiting www.milleranalogies.com.

The Miller Analogies Test is computer-based and registration is limited. Once spaces are filled, no more registrations will be accepted for that particular month.

Individuals who wish to take the MAT must do the following:

  • Fill out registration form in Testing and Disability Services, or click here to print out a registration form.
  • Pay test fee (check, money order, or credit/debit card). Registration payments are accepted by mail, but must be paid before the registration deadline. All applications must be received with the test fee in order to reserve a seat.

MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test)

This national test is primarily used by education majors and those seeking to earn certification for teaching. Many states now require PRAXIS scores. To register online visit www.ets.org/praxis.

Regents' Test

The Board of Regents recently approved Augusta State University's request to become a Regents exempt school. This decision was based on the overall success rate of students passing the exam.

What does this mean for ASU students? This means that ASU students are no longer required to take the exam. However, students who decide to transfer to a non-exempt school within the University System of Georgia will be required to take the exam at the non-exempt school.

SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)

This Scholastic Aptitude Test is a college entrance exam given at local high schools in the area and at Augusta State University. Tests cover Mathematics, Critical Reading, and Writing. A Language test is also available.

TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills)

ATTENTION TEST TAKERS
Beginning with the July 23, 2012 test administration all registrations must be completed online at www.atitesting.com.

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a pre-entry test used to evaluate the academic preparedness of students applying for the School of Nursing.

  • All registration for the TEAS test must be completed online. The total amount due at the time of registration is $70.00.
  • First time test takers must create an account prior to reporting to take the test at www.atitesting.com.

The TEAS consists of a total of 170 questions on four subtest areas: Mathematics, Science, English and Reading. All subtests contain multiple choice questions with one correct answer. The Mathematics subtest measures knowledge of whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions and decimals, algebraic equations, percentages and ration/proportions (45 questions). The Science subtest covers science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic physical principles and general science (30 questions). The English subtest measures knowledge of punctuation, grammer, sentence structure, contextual words and spelling (55 questions). The Reading subtest covers paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension and inferences/conclusions (40 questions). Maximum time allowed for this test is 3 hours and 30 minutes.
