William A. Bloodworth, Jr. Scholarship Fund
BBill Bloodworth has announced his intention to step down as president of Augusta State University June 30, 2012. What better way to honor his nearly 19 years of service, and his many contributions to this institution than by establishing an endowment to provide scholarships to deserving students.
Anyone who knows Bill knows his deep concern that the cost of attending college keeps many bright, capable students from pursuing college. Your contribution to an endowment fund in his name will generate funds to provide scholarships to deserving students as well as honor a man who has given selflessly and tirelessly to this university.
You have only to look around the campus of ASU to see Bill's indelible mark. Gone are the ill-equipped Army warehouses that served as academic buildings, and in their place are state-of-the-art classroom facilities. Gone are the unattractive entrance, the dark, depressed student center, and the interior roads with traffic that threatened pedestrians.
The campus today is distinguished by a beautiful gated entrance, an attractive amphitheatre, new and renovated buildings, a scenic History Walk, and informative museum. ASU has become a destination university with student housing, a new golf house and practice facilities, and national prominence of our athletics programs-including four trips to basketball's Elite Eight and back-to-back national Division I men's golf championships. Even more importantly, ASU has enjoyed increased presence and prestige under President Bloodworth's leadership.
"In order to honor Bill's outstanding leadership, the ASU Foundation envisioned an endowment to commemorate and recognize the role that he has played in advancing ASU. This is a wonderful tribute to him and his vision for the university. All of us-faculty, staff, alumni, students, Foundation, and friends-have an opportunity to show our appreciation for all that President Bloodworth has accomplished," said Helen Hendee, vice president for development. The endowment will be announced at a reception on Thursday, June 28, at 5:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cultural Center. Please mark this date on your calendar so that you may join us in presenting him with this tribute. You also will be receiving an invitation shortly. And, please remember, that no gift is too large or small.
