There are a variety of Women's Studies classes offered every semester—this page lists the classes that are available in the current and upcoming semester. Be sure to read the course descriptions and check back to the website for course flyers during registration. If you have trouble registering for a class, contact Marie Drews (mdrews@gru.edu) or Kathy Slivka (knewton@gru.edu). Students who wish to take two WMST 4950 courses in a given semester will need to have a special permission entered before it will be possible to regiser in Elroy.
Summer 2013 Course Offerings
WMST 1101: Introduction to Women's Studies:
An interdisciplinary course designed to provide a foundation for the women's studies minor

WMST/SOCI/CRJU 3336: Women, Crime, and the Criminal Justice System:
A sociological analysis of women as criminal offenders and as workers in criminal justice fields. Examines the socio-historical construction of gender for its influences on criminal law and the practices of criminal justice agencies. Covers historical perspectives on women and crime and the adequacy of contemporary criminological perspectives for explaining female criminality.

Fall 2013 Course Offerings
WMST 1101: Introduction to Women's Studies:

WMST/SOCI/CRJU 4336: Gender and Victimization:
A sociological analysis of crime victims and victim-service agencies. Traces the historical development of the field of victimology. Examines the influence of gender on victimization experiences and practices of criminal justice and victim-service agencies.

WMST/SOCI/CRJU 4442: Gender and Society:
Sociological insights and concepts will be employed in observing, interpreting, and analyzing the social processes creating, reinforcing and changing gender roles and the statuses of women and men in society.

WMST 2950/4950: Food and Gender
Food and Gender explores the spectrum of contentions surrounding food preparation, consumption, and representation through a feminist lens. The course themes will include discussion of the matrix of power that governs food preparation and production (both domestic and global); the reinforcement of gender roles in representations of food and eating; women's conflicts over eating, body consciousness, and identity; and the ways in which food-oriented spaces have and can be-come a site of feminist activism and community building.
