Clothesline Project & Take Back the Night
April 16th - 20th, TBTN April 19th at 6:30 pm

On Friday, April 13th, from 11am-1pm, preparations for sexual assault awareness week will begin in University Village with the making of t-shirts for the Clothesline Project. Inspired by the postcards at http:postsecret.blogspot.com, we are also going to make and display postcards that express people's experiences with, ideas and feelings about, and/or fears of rape and sexual assault. The postcards will be displayed in the lobby of University Hall the following week. On Monday, April 16th, 9am, the Clothesline Project will go up along the History Walk by the main entrance to campus, off Walton Way.

One new event this year will be the banner contest, which is being planned by Melissa Ziegler of Career Services and Ron Lunk of Student Activities. Student organizations can make banners to advertise Take Back the Night and raise awareness about sexual assault. The banners will also be hung on campus starting April 16th, and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter. A prize will be given by Rape Crisis.

Another new event this year will be a film screening at 7pm on Monday, April 16th, in UH 170, where we will show the documentary Rape Is... and have a facilitated discussion afterwards. Discussion facilitators will include Dr. Christie Launius, ASU Women's Studies Director, Anne Ealick-Henry, Director of Rape Crisis and Sexual Assault Services, and Shannon Nix, from ASU Counseling Services.

Finally, the Take Back the Night march and rally will be held Thursday, April 19th, starting at 6:30pm. This year's emcee is Dr. Cameron Lippard of the Sociology Department, and President Bloodworth will be providing the welcome. Speakers will include Anne Ealick-Henry, Dr. Christie Launius, and Ashley Wright, an Assistant District Attorney.
