Perhaps nothing defines the philosophy of the ASU Writing Center better than the following belief statements by which we function.

We believe that :

Every person can learn, although in different ways and at different times.

There is a direct correlation between achievement and self-concept.

Communication skills are necessary for survival.

Technology can provide alternative ways to learn.

Educational achievement requires sensitivity to the needs of the student, the faculty, and the community.

Adult learners have unique needs which must be met when providing services.

The willingness and ability to communicate are key to understanding between tutor and student.

Thus our mission here at the Augusta State University Writing Center is to provide our students with assistance in composition via one-on-one tutoring along with supplementary materials and technologies. Key to this is a continuing selection of tutors who are both strong writers and good communicators.
