Questions 2006.261

1. Are there going to be separate times for MA construction and testing? I
just noticed the ALL in the first time block, is that for everything?

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT WE COULD TEST ALL 28 DEVICES IN LESS THAN 30
MINUTES, BUT SOMEHOW THAT DOES NOT SEEM POSSIBLE.

THE ALL IS, AS IN THE RULES, THE TIME IN WHICH THE DEVICES WIL BE
BUILT. WE WILL THEN TEST THEM OVER THE NEXT 2.376249 HOURS. TEAM
MEMBERS DO NOT NEED TO BE PRESENT DURING TESTING, BUT IT MIGHT HELP TO
ATTACH CRISP 103 DOLLAR BILLS UPON COMPLETION OF THE CONSTRUCTING.

2. What does "all" in the schedule mean?

All schools will compete at the same time for these events. The classification all is determined by the nature of the event and the time constraints of some of the event supervisors.

3.  Is there a different insect list for state than for region?

We will use the list that appears in the rules manual.

4. Will you use a planetarium for Solar System?

We do not have a planetarium. Sky questions will be slides and/or web projections.

 5. What is the height of the ceiling for the race of the balloons?

10 feet

6. Can we have more than the specified machine number for mission possible?

"A team can list as many simple machines as they wish.  But they should only number (on the sheet and the device) the ones that they are submitting for judging for points.  If some of the numbered ones are not allowed or if the device fails to complete some of the numbered ones,  they will not be allowed to use some of the un-numbered ones to take their place."--Manley Midgett, national event coordinator, mission possible

7.. Are all events listed as Science Building in the big new Science Building?

Yes all events in the one and only science building. On some  maps, the old science building words have been removed. The map
on the web page lists only the new science building. It actuallly has a name sign in front of it now.

 8. Will any of the following be impounded?
          Mission Possible
          Wheeled Vehicle
          Storm the Castle
          Bottle Rocket
          Bridge Building

Wheeled vehicle and Storm the Castle will have impound; for Mission Possible, devices may be brought to run ONLY 30 minutes before testing time. As you know the purpose of an impound is to check the devices to see that they are at proper specs. We can do that for many events as teams show up. And besides, then we can not be blamed for damaging some device in impound.

 9. Can adults impound if students on that event are busy in another event?

I don't see why not. Impound usually means that the device is brought to sight ahead of time. I suppose a monkey
could that as well.

 10. I am assuming "either" on the schedule means I get to choose which section works best for my team.

Yes. A quasi walkin. You pick the hour.

 11. We are labeling our devices as ****Middle School. Is there a team number or some other labeling you want on the devices?

That is good, but $100.00 securely attached to each device will help the es determine who the winner is ahead of
time. In adition, event suprevisors have requested offers of trips, free gas for year, etc. All of these offers are to be prominently displayed adjacent to the school name.

 12. Sign Up Times.  I would like to know the sign up time intervals for all of the sign up events, prior to coming to the coaches meeting. I would like to meet with my assistant coach and decide what an optimal time for each event would be and also have some back up times.

Mp , and bridge will be at 10 minute intervals beginning at times indicated. For mp, students may have to arrive earlier
than sign up time in order to get the device ready to go. Sounds of Music will be at 15 minute intervals. For all sign ups, time is the time that the device will begin testing, not set up.

Note: all events will run 45-50 minutes, so there will be approximately 13.2635931058 minutes between events.

13. What should students do with cell phones during events?

VERY IMPORTANT: CELL PHONES MUST BE TURNED OFF AND NOT EXAMINED AT ALL DURING THE EVENT. IF A CELL PHONE GOES OFF OR A STUDENT IS SEEN USING A CELL PHONE OR OR OTHER RELATED DEVICE DURING THE EVENT, THAT TEAM WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFIED FROM THIS EVENT
