Requirements for Chemistry I-MAT Program (Integrated Masters of Arts in Teaching)

The Chemistry I-MAT Program integrates the BS in Chemistry degree with a Masters of Arts in Teaching. Students accepted into the I-MAT program begin taking graduate level classes in education during the spring of their junior year (students should apply to I-MAT program during the fall of their junior year). With just one extra year (5 yrs total), students are able to graduate with both a BS in Chemistry as well as the MAT degree. The I-MAT program is thus a streamlined approach to obtaining a MAT degree. The accelerated program was created to help attract more students into the teaching profession. From 2010-2014, students entering the I-MAT program can apply for the PRESTIGE scholarship (funded by the National Science Foundation), which will cover the cost of tuition and living expenses.
