| Course Description |
Class Piano for music
majors is a progressive series of class piano courses designed for those
students who have chosen Concentrations or Majors in applied
areas other than
Piano, and/or have had little or no prior study in piano. It involves support
for the Piano Proficiency requirement of all music majors. It
involves the
development of skills such as knowledge of the piano keyboard, note-reading in
bass and treble clef, musical literacy, and motor
coordination. Among the
specific skills to be developed for the Piano Proficiency Exam are major and
minor scales. Major and minor arpeggios, block
chords, early intermediate
repertoire, accompanying, patriotic repertoire, sight reading, open score
reading, and transposition.

1. Regular attendance and punctual arrival
2. Regular practice
3. To pass this course, each student must pass (or attempt) at least one section of the Piano Proficiency Exam during the semester.

in the learning
community) and actively sees the opportunity to grow professionally.

Note: Since Class Piano
addresses many QCC standards, a representative cross section form grades K, 3, 6
and 9-12 are referenced. Among the
standards addressed:
Kindergarten General Music: 1,2,3,4,8,10,13, and 16.
Grade Three General Music: 1,3,6,10,11,13,14,15,16, and 19.
Grade Six Band: 1,4,5,6,8,9,10,12,13,14,19, and 22.
High School Choral: 7,8,9,13,14,15,17, and 19.

Grading Policy:
Proficiency Exam 75%
Applied Quizzes 25%
100%
The Proficiency Exam will count for 75% (750 points) of the final grade.
A student will receive partial credit (500 points) for passing only one part of the Proficiency Exam.
A student who fails the Proficiency Exam will receive 0 points and receive an "F" for the semester.
Five quizzes will count for 25 % (50 points each) of the final grade.
Proficiency Exam dates will be announced and posted by the Piano Faculty.
