Elementary Statistics Using the TI-83/84 Graphing Calculator, Triola (ISBN 9780321693204)
Calculator (TI-84,TI-83,TI 84+, or TI-83+)
Goals:
After completing the course you will
have an understanding of statistics sufficient to present, interpret, and
critically analyze data. You will be able to make informed decisions based
on statistical information. You will be able to read and understand
statistical information that appears in popular and scholarly articles and
books.
What is required of the
student?
You as a
student will be required to read, listen, write, and above all work through
exercises, problems, and projects. You will be required to present the
results of your work in written and oral form.
Grades:
Grades will be determined as
follows:
Three tests - 15% each
Final Exam - 30%
Homework,
Projects, Group Work - 25%
Attendance:
Attendance is expected at
all class meetings. If you miss more than 3 class periods you are
subject to being withdrawn from the class. Withdrawal for poor attendance
prior to October 15 will result in a grade of W. Withdrawal for poor
attendance after October 15 will result in a grade of WF. You are responsible for any work that
you missed during an absence. Please come see me as soon as possible if you have
missed a class or if you need to miss a future class.
Withdrawal:
The deadline for withdrawal with a
grade of W is Monday, October 15. Any withdrawal after that date will result in
a WF. If you feel that you must withdraw please try to do so on or before
October 15.
Test Dates:
Test 1 - covers chapters 1-4 (September 20)
Test 2 - covers chapters 5 and 6 (October 9)
Test 3 - covers chapters 7-11 (December 4)
Final Exam - Monday, December 17, 7:00 - 9:00 am
Make-up policy:
No in class work or homework
assignments can be made
up. If you must be absent when an assignment is due you can get credit for
it only if it is submitted electronically or hand delivered before the time it
is due. A make-up test may be given if an extreme situation makes it
impossible for you to be there for the test. Examples of extreme
situations include illnesses, accidents, or family emergencies. You
must let me know as soon as you find out that you cannot make it
to the test. In almost all cases this means that you will let me know
before the time the test is scheduled. You must be willing to provide
written evidence of the particular situation that requires you to miss the
test.
