Advice from ASUO 1000 Students about College

Whether you studied a lot on high school or not, college will probably require a lot more studying than you are used to.  It is wise not to cram and to develop a study plan and follow it.  By not cramming, you can avoid mixing up material.

D’Vante Lee

Participation and attendance are the keys to passing.

After returning to college after 20 years, ASUO 1000 has been valuable.  I have learned and used most of the information we studied.  I also enjoyed the guest speakers and the campus visits… I learned about all the great things ASU has to offer its students.

Do your homework, study for tests and try very hard, but do not forget to give yourself some leisure time.  Try to find the balance.
Sue Nacci

When you make one bad grade, don’t act like it is the end of the world, but on the other hand, don’t blow it away like it is nothing.  Try to learn everything in the lab when you first get it.  Come early to class to find a parking space … Ask questions…. Talk to your professors.
Patrice Frazier

Students help each other

Be passionate about your education.  Take the time to study and make good grades, because you’re in school for a short time, but you get to be successful forever.

I learned NOT to study on my bed.  Number one, I get too sleepy and number two, when you get done, it’s hard to fall asleep in the place you studied!
Cassy Johnson

Make a weekly schedule using one hour blocks; schedule everything from sleeping to studying and even relaxing.  It will help you visualize where your time is spent and will help you plan by not worrying about what’s next.
Jeremy Robinson

I am currently a junior at ASU, and I wish I had taken it (ASUO 1000) as a freshman.  Most of the teaching from this class I applied to my other classes this semester.  I was surprised when my study habits and overall learning improved greatly.  I definitely recommend that this course be required for all freshmen.
Jerry Wright

Having a QUIET place to study is essential.
Cody Connor

I don’t think I was well prepared before going into college – I never had to study and I always waited until the last minute to do my work…. Don’t let the work get ahead of you.  College can be a wonderful experience if you keep up.

Do the best you can in all your work.  You never know when you’ll need those extra points.  Complete all extra credit work.  Complete your tasks ahead of time.
Keep up with your professors through arranged appointments, emails or direct conversations.
