PURPOSE

To support educational enrichment for women exhibiting leadership potential in a higher education field.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY/CRITERIA

1. Applicant must be a woman.

2. Applicant must be either:

a. A graduate student (the scholarship is not intended for undergraduate students) pursuing a degree in an institution of higher education (two-year, four-year, public, or private), or

b. Currently employed in a Georgia institution of higher education (college, university, technical institute, two-year, four-year, public or private) who seeks professional development opportunities in an administrative or teaching capacity.

3. Applicant must indicate need for the scholarship.

For example, applicant must have financial need to continue formal graduate studies or absence of institutional support for professional development.

4. Applicant must be academically in good standing if holding student status (3.0 cumulative GPA).

5. Applicant must submit application form by deadline.

6. Applicant must submit two letters of reference in support of scholarship application, at least one of which must be from present employer or faculty member.

SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT AND DEADLINE

Scholarship announcements will be disseminated to all institutions of higher education in the state by September 30, 2000. Information will be sent to the chief academic officers. Applications must be postmarked by December 1, 2000, to ensure a timely award at the Spring meeting.

SCHOLARSHIP USE

The Louise McBee Scholarship may be used for the following purposes:

1. tuition, fees, books, and other miscellaneous education expenses related to continuing education in the field or to the pursuit of a graduate degree.

2. workshops, seminars, etc., related to development of leadership skills for women involved in higher education.

3. relevant research contributing to the success of women in higher education, or

4. the development of programs and models that will enhance women in leadership programs.

APPLICATION FORM

An application form must be submitted for each applicant and must be postmarked by the published deadline, December 1, 2000.

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION PROCEDURE

The Louise McBee Scholarship Committee is a standing committee of the Georgia Association for Women in Education (GAWE). The Chair and a committee of at least three (3) active GAWE members will be appointed by the President to serve for a period of two years. Selection of the scholarship recipient will be based on the following:

1. indication of need (financial or other)

2. proven academic record and/or leadership potential, and

3. quality and thoroughness of application, written statement, and references.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The Louise McBee Scholarship of $500.00 will be awarded in February 2001 at the spring GAWE Conference.
