Augusta
[J. Louis Sayre Collection 92-08]
“Mr. Wiegand, Jeannie’s then
teacher, came out of the parlor
where he had been giving her a
lesson. He noted us drinking
and asked what it was “Lemon
Beer”, I told him. “Ah! Bier!!”,
he said; so of course I offered
him a cup from the jar. “Bah!
Bier!!” he said in disgust.” (p.22)

“In the Fall of 1888, I think it was,
Augusta had an Exposition. It was about
when the town changed from the
“Fountain City” to the “Electric City” in
honor of the first electric trolley cars.
Our family went out once or twice and
spent the day seeing the wonders”
