Biographical/Historical Note.

George S. Storrs was commissioned as a first lieutenant of artillery on October 4, 1861. He had been a private in Company C. and sergeant major of the 13th Alabama Regiment, under A. R. Johnson's command.

On August 11, 1862 he was appointed temporary Captain of artillery and ordered to report to J. E. Johnston's command for assignment to S. G . French. He was assigned as captain and ordnance officer, Chief of Artillery, on the staff of General French in the District of North Carolina until June 1863 when he was assigned to General J. E. Johnston and promoted to captain. Ultimately a Major in command of an artillery battalion and Chief of Artillery under General S. G. French.
