Point Orient (WPB 82319). (L-R) GM2 Borgo, BM1 French and SN Erik Newpher. August 1969.
The crews of the Coast Guard 82-foot Point Class patrol boats adapted the available storage areas to greater needs. The forward hole on the boats was normally used to store paint or other materials. In Vietnam, it was used as magazine holding around 800 rounds of 81mm ammunition. This additional ammunition gave the Coast Guard greater ability to engage enemy targets over extended periods unlike some of their lessor equipted navy counterparts.
