Course Description

     Welcome to Augusta State University's, Senior Reserve Officers Training Corps (SROTC), Military Science Department. MSL 1011 is a study of small unit, leadership doctrine, staff and management techniques, tactics, drills and leadership development, as a small group leader. This course will review map reading, land navigation as applied with the small unit leader, as well as an introduction to small unit tactics and leadership skills.
     Upon completion of this course, you will have learned:

  • Military Jargon
  • Military History
  • Troop Leading Procedures
  • Customs and Courtesies
  • Map Reading
  • Basic Weaponry Skills
  • Leadership Skills required for a successful Military Career

     The following rules and course objectives will assist in ensuring your success in this course. Please keep in mind that this list is not all inclusive and the instructor maintains the right to change this schedule with a minimum of a three day notice through Blackboard or through other communication.

  • Please be on time for all scheduled training and events
  • Accountability is very important; ensure you are present for all Physical Readiness Training (PRT) sessions (Contract only);
  • Although PRT is only mandatory for Contracted Cadets, it will be very beneficial for all Cadets to attend this training.
  • Classroom/lab sessions are mandatory in order for you to receive full credit for the course.
  • Group participation is key during all classroom and Lab sessions.
  • All late assignments will have 10 points deducted each day that it's late!
  • If you feel you need to miss an event, please inform me at least 48 hours prior; LTC Cantrell or I will be the only approving authority for you to miss training.
  • Lastly, use your student chain of command at all times if you have issues, you will be notified of who your chain of command is at the beginning of this course. However, do not forget that I am your primary instructor and I will always be available for you.

     There are no prerequisites for this course
