Using FTP from home to access data files on the student server This documentation is designed with users of Core FTP Lite in mind. Core FTP Lite an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) package that is available free to students, faculty, and staff of educational institutions. If you need this software, it can be downloaded from download.com or from tucows.com. Instructions for downloading the installation software can be found at both sites. When you run the installation executable, if you use the default settings recommended by the software, Core FTT Lite will be listed on your Start - Programs menu, and a shortcut will be on your desktop. Before starting Core FTP Lite, be sure that you have connected to your ISP (Internet Service Provider). The first time you start Core FTP Lite, you will get a screen that looks something like this:
Click on the Yes button. Then you will see a screen something like this:
Click on the No button. Then you will see a screen something like this:
For the site name, type jaguar or jaguar.aug.edu. The Host / IP / URL should be jaguar.aug.edu. The Username should be your JagNET account and the password should be your JagNET account password.
Click on Connect. From now on, when you open Core FTP Lite, click on the jaguar site name on the left, then Connect to connect to the student server. If the connection to your directory on the student server is successful, you will see a screen like this:
(If the connection is not successful, you will not see any files or directories listed under the Remote site, and there will be an error message listed at the bottom. Use the Sites - Manage Sites menu choice to check your server name, user name, and password to be sure they are correct. Then try again to connect to the server.) Use the listing on the left to navigate the drives/directories on your computer, and the listing on the right to navigate the directories on the server. To transfer files from the server to your computer,

If you want to change the default drive/directory displayed when you open Core FTP Lite, use the Sites - Manage Sites menu choice to open your site definition files. Then click on the Advanced button. Click on Directory/Folder and set the default start folders.
When you are finished, use the File - Disconnect menu option to disconnect from the server. Then close the applicaton. |
