Optional Out-of-Class Essay #5, for Summer Session
In an essay of a minimum of four pages (at least four full pages of text, not counting the vertical spacing necessary for MLA paraphernalia on page 1) in proper MLA format (proper one-inch margins on all sides; size 10 Courier New font; not bothering with a Works Cited page), discuss the process of choosing the particular poem that you did as the subject of the documented paper for this class, including in your essay all the items asked about in this assignment document.
Which poem titles initially attracted your attention from the official list of poems for the documented paper, and why? Which poem titles from the official list of poems for the documented paper initially elicited an apathetic or negative response from you, and why?
When reading over any of the poems from the official list of poems for the documented paper, did you have positive or negative responses, how or why?
How did you go about finally choosing the one poem you did pick from the official list of poems for the documented paper? Did you get a group of two or three poems that seemed appealing, and then reject poems in order to select one? How did that process work? As you have gotten into your analysis of and writing about the poem that you picked, has your response to the poem remained what it was initially, or has your response changed? How so?
If relevant to your choosing, the consideration of secondary sources (online -- from where: campus or home or both? at a library --- which one?), consultation of the MLA bibliography, and such matters could be part of your discussion.
Work answers to all the preceding issues into a well-organized, well-developed
(enough explanation and supporting detail), and well-edited essay. The
essay should have a good title, and should use a font size of 10 or 11,
with regular double spacing, and margins of 1" on top, bottom, and both
sides of the page. The word count (not including MLA paraphernalia and
essay title) should run at least 600 words.
