| Key Largo, Florida December 2007 Copyright: Jurgen Brauer, Augusta, Georgia, USA 1. Family scuba-diving vacation. We pulled our trailer from Augusta, Georgia, to Calusa Camp Resort at mile 101.5 on Key Largo, Florida. 2. Daughter Anne "drives" the dive boat. 3. Son Leon does a backflip off the swing at John Pennekamp State Park. 4. And son Jonathan indulges in a favorite hobby of his: climbing the nearest tree ... 5. Here is the trio. 6. But of course, we came for the water. Mom snorkels ... 7. Atlantic Moon Jellies were all around us on almost every dive. 8. A purple seafan backlit by the noonday sun ... 9. ... as is the Christ of the Abyss statue, a monument to those who live and die by the sea. 10. As usual, we are interested in the critters. Here, a conch peeks at the photographer from within the safety of its shell. 11. Grunt, Glasseye, and Hogfish are on the next 3 photos ...
12. ... followed by the Jewfish (or Goliath Grouper) of about 4-5 feet in length and several hundred pound in weight. This one greets divers by the City of Washington wreck site. 13. A (harmless) Nurse Shark cruises along the reef top ... 14. ... and a school of Barracuda hang out near the ocean surface. 15. Blue Tang, hard to photograph, congregate around a coral head.
16. A Yellowhead Jawfish fully emerged from its burrow. 17. A Scrawled Filefish near the Benwood wreck offered itself for a portrait session. 18. ... as did this Smooth Trunkfish. 19. This Yellow Tang really IS bright yellow, but I was too far away and the camera flash didn't reach to bring out the color. (Next time I'll get it right ...) 20. The colors of the Queen Angelfish are indescribably beautiful, and this photo provides but a glimpse of it. 21. Mom gets a visit from the Jewfish, with a Yellowtail Snapper in front. 22. Anne relaxes and says hello to all her friends. 23. Leon cruises along the reef, looking for critters. 24. Jonathan practices blowing underwater "smokerings." [The end.] |
