General Chemistry Concepts Relevant to Organic Chemistry

The prerequisite classes for organic chemistry include CHEM1211 and CHEM1212. The experience from these courses is essential for you to succeed in organic chemistry. There are many intangibles that you obtained from these courses, not the least of which is your view of matter as molecules, that molecules are composed of atoms, that chemical reactions can occur and change the composition of the reacting molecules, etc. You also have a detailed exposure to acid/base, kinetics, equilibrium, and other fundamental theories. Most of these will not be used again at the level of detail that you have already been through. That being said, there are a handful of concepts that you will use directly (and are thus worthy of your review), even if they are not redeveloped with the same rigor as your previous experience.
